Hi, my name is Naomi White. I have always been around dogs and couldn't imagine life without them. I ended up with my first dog when I was only two years old. He was a little Maltese that someone randomly gave my parents saying that their daughter was allergic and couldn't keep him anymore. He was wrapped up in a towel with matted fur and covered in fleas. My parents said they thought he was an old dog because he didn't want to play or do anything when they first gave him to us. But that all changed when we got him home, cut all his hair off and gave him a bath. It turned out he was still a puppy and was the perfect companion for me. Being a little kid at the time I thought the perfect name for him was Muppet and we did everything together. When I got older I started learning how to correctly take care of a dog and how to train them. My favorite thing to do with him was dog agility. Everyone would laugh at how cute he was and how excited he got about zooming through the obstacle course. Looking back now, I realize now that he was the first stepping stone that led me to dog rescue. But unfortunately, dogs don't live as long as we want them to and he passed away when I was 16 after having a stroke. I will never forget that little dog and how much I learned from him.
Muppet wasn't the only influence that led me to rescue though. My family also played a huge part in my love for animals. I grew up on a small ranch with horses, cows, chickens, a couple of pigs, and of course dogs. My dad has always loved turtles so we always stopped to help turtles cross the road. Plus stopping for any other animals in need. When I was in 5th grade, my mom became Animal Control for Robinson, Texas and I absolutely loved hearing the stories of all the animals she saved from the alligator to the skunks. We ended up with several rescue dogs because my mom wanted to help them. My favorite and the one I learned the most about patience from was Katie. She was a beautiful pit/lab mix that was scared of everything. It took a long time for us to win over her trust and teach the world wasn't a scary or horrible place. Katie was only around 7 months old when we got her but we knew she had been through a lot. But like most pitties, all she wanted was to be loved and to have a family. I also learned a lot about dogs and training from my grandma. For as I can remember, she has shown dogs and has had some of the top dogs in the country for obedience training, agility and confirmation (even winning Select at the Westminster Dog Show). Whenever I go visit her we always did something with the dogs. My favorite thing to do was to help train and socialize the puppies, because who doesn't love puppies.
Needless to say, almost everything in my life has led me to dog rescue. And now I feel blessed to be able to start a rescue and change the lives of animals in need. I want to thank my wonderful fiance, friends, and family who has supported me so much and helped make all this possible.
