Painted Paws

Animal Rescue of Central Texas

Layla was the first foster that led to starting my own rescue. She was dumped at Mother Neff State Park and taken in by Central Texas Lost & Found Pets. CTL&FPs aren't a 501(c)3 rescue but they do an amazing job in rescuing and getting animals the care they need with just volunteers and donations. When Layla was found, she was heartworm positive and had to have special care when going through treatment. That meant no running, jumping, or playing which was a struggle for Layla since she was still young and energetic. But she made it through the treatment and has been successfully adopted. She now gets to enjoy running around 25 acres and sleeping in a comfortable bed night.

2019 - Naomi White's Adopted Fosters

Misty knew where to go to get help and made herself at home in our garage. After 2 weeks of trying to find her owner, we started getting her ready to be put up for adoption. She is such a sweet and beautiful girl, it didn't take long for her to find a family. She was adopted at her first adoption event and has her owner wrapped around her paw.

Athena was a sweet little 3 month old puppy when she followed a family home. They could only keep her long enough to look for an owner but after that she came to us. She now has a big brother to play with and is spoiled rotten by her new family.

Miracle was taken to an animal shelter after wandering around town. The owners never came to reclaim her. Unfortunately, the shelter was in a small town with limited resources and can't hold dogs very long. Miracle was on the euthanization list and schedule to be put down just a couple of hours before being pulled out. She was the perfect example of how people could pull together to save a life. Since we were too far away to make it there in time, someone near there raced to the shelter and got her out in time and brought her to us. The wonderful lady who was able to get her from the shelter suggested naming her Miracle because she almost didn't get a second chance at life. She now lives a comfortable life with an amazing family that loves her.

We got the privilege of taking care of these cute puppies for 3 weeks before heading off to rescues up north. They are part of a litter of 7 that were dumped by the river. Its a lot of work to take care of 7 large puppies so they were divided up between a couple foster homes while getting puppy shots and everything else needed for their journey. They have all been adopted by wonderful families.

Luna and Chip are by far my hardest fosters. They were found with their brother when they were only 3 months old. They were in such bad shape the vet warned me that there was a very good chance that one or two of them were not going to make it. They had mange so bad that they were completely bald, covered in fleas and ants, and extremely dehydrated and emaciated. Sadly one of the little boy's

body had already gone through too much and he passed away not long after coming into my care. Every time I walked into the room, I would say a little prayer that they were still alive and going to be okay. The day they start to become more active and alert was one of the best days of my life. Knowing that these little guys were going to pull through and be okay. Though Chip scared me a couple of weeks after starting to getting better. One day I noticed that his skin was turning blue! At first, I thought maybe he was cold and tried to warm him up but that wasn't it. I started worrying that he wasn't getting enough oxygen or something else was seriously wrong. But we finally figured it what was going on. His hair was growing back! His brown hair looked blue under his skin before it came out as a soft brown fuzzy. I no longer had bald pink puppies running around but peach fuzz puppies.

After going through all that and nursing them back to health I knew I couldn't give them up. Luna was adopted by my mom and is living the life on 100 acres. Chip is now my goofy little (big) dog and I can't imagine ever letting him go.

Chloe, Skidboot, and Vixen was my next puppy trio. They were found on a busy road together when they were 6 months old. Skidboot, named after a very smart blue healer from the 90's, was the most outgoing of the 3. His little sisters were very shy and took a little for them to gain their courage. It seemed like they had never had human contact and what experience they did have wasn't good. But eventually, with a little love and patience, they started coming out of their shells and learned what love is. They all now have loving homes where they are growing into amazing and smart dogs.

Rufus is another one of my favorite fosters. One of my friends at CTL&FP messaged me about a puppy on someone's porch late at night. He had shown up on this lady's porch around 9:00 am and she posted him on Facebook trying to find an owner. He was skinny and had mange so she was scared to touch him or let him in. Unfortunately, my friend didn't see the post till late at night and the finder wasn't responding for us to find out where he was. After a little digging, we were able to find a street intersection that he might be near. At this point, it was already midnight but it was the middle of December and it was going to freeze that night so my fiance and I jumped in the car to try to find a puppy on a porch. Amazingly, we managed to spot him curled up in the corner of her porch. I will never forget how happy and excited he was to see me even though he was cold and look miserable with dry itchy skin and swollen paws. He had been scratching so much that his skin was swollen and bleeding. You could see the relief in his eyes when he started getting his medicated baths and anti-itch medicine. But even with how much pain he was in and everything he had been though, he was an extremely happy and sweet puppy with a lot of love to give. Rufus now has a little boy who is his partner in crime.

He looked miserable
